Just wanted to write and say thanks for providing my custom system, I'm very very very happy with the way it sounds! I watched and listened to lots of online demos which led me to getting it, but wow in the flesh it sounds even better! I have owned several different analog synths (both vintage & new) over the years and you have managed to take all of the elements from the good old classics and yet make it so its defined and modern at the same time! A massive step up sonically from my old Eurorack system! Also it looks absolutely stunning!

You've become very instrumental in not only helping to bring the Modular Synthesizer back into the light where it should've always been, but equally as important; you've made these instruments available to regular guys like me who can't afford to spend anywhere between five, and in some cases, six figures on modular systems that don't come even remotely close to sounding anywhere near as good and as solid as your modular systems sound. So; let me thank you for everything you and the gang at Synthesizers.com have done to help me bring my dream of owning my own Custom Designed Modular Synthesizer to life.

Hi Roger, I just love my Studio 66. Not a day goes by without me experimenting, such is its depth and creativity.

Oct 20, 2016 - JC Wrote:

Coming up on a year since my system 66 arrived. It is still my favorite item in the studio, and the really good news for me is, in just 2 more weeks it will be paid for. Roger, the pricing was certainly attractive, but I actually made my decision based on other factors. Quality and finish of the product, superior design, a mature and passionate user community, and by far the most comprehensive set of user documentation I have run across were my primary drivers. I was actually a little concerned about how musical and fat the tone would be, compared to my original mini moog, so I was ecstatic when I dialed up a fat bass with no trouble. It beats my voyager in that department. The system looks and feels much more impressive in person, than in any pictures or videos. Affordability is icing on the cake, but it is not what I would consider the best selling point. Moog had announced the return of their modular line up around the time I pulled the trigger, and I seriously looked into it...yeah, price was crazy high, but if I thought it was a better product, I would have held out for theirs. For me it came down to a more well thought out design, and a more logical part sourcing philosophy, which I feel gives us a longer support life cycle. Ok...time to start thinking about more modules...

May 16, 2016 - KB Wrote:

I am a composer 1st and I must have tools that inspire my creative process, not hamper it. Sadly, the 55 is far more of a hindrance than a helper. Conversely, your systems are more logical and straight-forward: I was creating with them instantly, with relatively rare moments of frustration. I'm not sure Moog made the right choices when deciding to adhere to the nostalgic aspects of their modulars instead of integrating the more useful modern improvements. Any musical instrument is only as good as its readiness and adaptability to the rest of the world. IMO, the 55 may have been that instrument in the early 70's, but not now. So, I am prepared to remove the Moog 55 from my arsenal and further expand with your studio systems.

Fresh out of the crate and warmed up, the moog oscillators were drifting and intonated improperly ( octaves were NOT real octaves, they were off about 12 cents). I A/B'd your tone generators next to theirs and found no discernible difference, also yours had a innately higher S/N ratio and VASTLY more stable. I left the unit on for 24 hours and your oscillators were still rock-steady.

I understand the adherence and romance to keeping nostalgia alive, but what Moog ( the co. not Bob) fails to realize is that Bob built a state-of-the art instrument AT THAT TIME. Some of its biggest failings, aside from the instability of the switching power-supply, is the oft-repeated CV interface, which consumes a great deal of valuable real-estate on the face of it.

I finally got my System-55 and added the ME22s and ME22e wings to it for the first time. I have to say I am truly impressed. The cabinetry and size matched perfectly with the Moog. The quality of the workmanship and attention to details is exceptional. The audio quality is spot-on. I particularly like the modernizing of certain functions that Moog has decided to shy-away from I assume for posterity-sake, but makes your unit more immediately logical and usable. To get all of this at 1/3 the price is miraculous. I would gladly recommend your gear to anyone.

I am really enjoying this discussion. It reminded me of when I was at the beginning of stepping into the world of modular synthesis, and how I was torn between going 5U versus Eurorack. But since I am a guitar player, the 1/4 patch cord tilted me towards 5U. Then the weight of my youthful impressions and experiences with "Switched on Bach", Moog Modular, ELP, etc. really drove me over to 5U. And I chose Synthesizers.com as my system because of the website/s completeness. Then I emailed Roger with some questions and I knew I made the right choice. What I learned later after getting my first system was the absolute quality and attention to detail Roger offers. I have nothing against Eurorack or any other format. I am just so happy that I ended up making the perfect decision. And I get such joy when I hear the click of a patch cord insertion or when I touch my fingers on those wonderful knobs and give it a gentle twist and hear that gold come out of my monitors.

Jan 19, 2015 - JT Wrote:

I think it's amusing that Moog has come out with their version of a Dotcom. The Moog modular is part of a past that so many of us looked on with envy and longing; you made owning such a device not only possible, but enjoyable, and you did it without the likes of Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman showcasing your product. The new Moogs are pretty, but there's no real innovation here; they are simply re-releasing a product they abandoned long ago, and they are doing so at collectors prices. That they see such an opportunity is a testament to the modular community that exists, in no small part, because of your efforts.

Jan 19, 2015 - GF Wrote:

I think Moog are jumping on the bandwagon that been pioneered by the likes of Roger Arrick and other modular manufacturers from the 90's. These people had the guts to bring modulars to the world again when perhaps the future demand wasn't certain.

I have been following your site on and off for about 10 years, since I was a preteen, first exploring electronic music. It was from your site, your clear descriptions of each module, what they do, and the sound samples that you provided that I learned how to make electronic music. I didn't start producing until my mid to late teens due to financial reasons. I told myself that when I get enough money to buy a modular that I was going to buy from synthesizers.com, and that is what I just did, as you know. When I got the packages I was mind-blown at how large they are. I didn't really realize what I got myself into until I opened up the very safely and professionally bubble-wrapped and packed boxes, tearing it all off to reveal what a monster of a synth this is, even with the Box11 cabinets. Not just in size, but in sound too. This synth sounds much, much, MUCH better than any other software synthesizer that I have used in the past. It's rigid, easy to patch, and I don't have to worry about a single menu button or LCD screen with irritating navigation. I just wanted to give you a personal, very big two thumbs up for your professional service and high quality product.

As a design philosophy, the ample mixing/routing options are something I love about the Synthesizers.com line. There usually is an attenuator in the places I want one, and for my use there are plenty of times when two signal inputs is all I need for a voice. It keeps things very tidy. Modules like the Q106, Q107, and Q108 seem particularly well-conceived in this regard. This is always on my mind whenever people ask for single space or more dense versions of those functions. Density has its place, but I like Synthesizers.com's well-rounded approach to these modules.

I really can't say enough about not only the synth but also your company and the way you do business. The experience has really been great. I think most folks expect that when the price is great, you have to accept compromises on quality, but that is not the case with your company. It's amazing that you manage to maintain the pricing you do and still deliver not just a great product but a great experience, start-to-finish. The ordering, the packaging (you could drop the box from 20 feet and it would still be OK), the fit and finish, the look, the consistency in design and layout, the solid feel of the pots and switches, the functionality and THE SOUND. But you really should warn people that these things are so much fun, other musical gear can end up feeling neglected!

The thing that I love about DotCom is that they operate like a real business instead of some tinkerer working out of his garage or something like that. Everything is very professional and handled with class instead of this sort of "paypal me some money and wait 9 months while I get around to soldering your stuff" model that most of the other companies seem to operate on. I don't have time to wait for a glorified hobbyist to get around to providing me with my equipment; DotCom may not be Amazon.com, but they really are a cut above when it comes to service, shipping, legit invoices, etc. Arrick and co. are people of both personal and professional integrity, and it shows in all aspects of what they do.

I had modules stored for most of the year before I finally managed to get some cabinets constructed locally to house what is basically 3 x 44 tiers complete with 4x sequencers. approx a year later with all my modules in place I was able to switch it on....thanks to your company Roger. In manufacturing business there is a saying... "You want Quality, Delivery or Price? Choose any two." Synthesizers.com somehow does all three well. Amazing. Marketing is much, much harder to actually do right than most people could ever realize. It takes a deep sense of morality and considerable honor to the customer to pull it off right. I have been patching the whole weekend. Started at 7 PM on Saturday and went to bed at 4 AM on Sunday. Patched pretty much the whole Sunday as well and missed the nice weather here in Stockholm. :) It is so much fun, can't understand why I haven't bought a .COM earlier. Well I didn't have the space then but I do now. One thing that crossed my mind is how easy it is to patch. I mean I have tried the Arturia Moog Modular and I thought it was really hard to create sounds. With the .COM it is instant hands on and you can follow the signal path or modulation path much easier and you don't have to use a mouse. :) I own an Andromeda A6 and I find my .COM much easier to patch. On the Andromeda you have to go in to menus and it is hard to get a clear picture of the modulations going on inside the sizer. I don't own a Q960 yet so I use my PolyEvolver Keyboard to control the .COM. The PEK has a pretty usable sequencer that can control notes and velocity. I'm going to buy a Studio-22 cabinet and fill it with a Q960 and Q962. The VCO's are really stable, they stayed in tune the whole night and when I switch here on the day after they where still in tune. I bought the Q106CRS option so switching ranges works perfectly.

The Q150 is a dead on match and sounded BETTER than the 30 year 904, and easily "equal" to the brand new one made by Mikle Bucci guys, just my opinion, but you can let go of the "Moog" mystique unless you happen to be filthy rich and just want to have the right to say... And all I have is a complete "Entry System Synth" along with a slew and S/H module. Your entry system makes my friends envious. Oh, how I love that!

Personally I've never had anything but problems with Christian funmdamentalists, and right now we're having massive social and political problems because of these people's agenda.

The guy running synth.com evidently supports these people and there are links to this insidious garbage from his personal page. There's no way I'd support anyone who in turn supports this stuff. I certainly wouldn't buy anything and send money in that direction.

I patched up a few simple things to compare it to my Voyager -- you are definately in the same league. If I had to choose between a 22 space system and a Voyager, it'd have to be yours -- the possibilities of this modulare make it an easy desicion.

I'm on the first-year-pay-as-you-go-monthly-plan. I've always wanted a real modular, but had a difficult time justifying to myself buying one when the software versions were so cheap, compared to the price of modules. I told myself I'd do the one year entry plan because it really wouldn't hurt as much as buying a 22 unit all at once.

Today I got the first oscillator, envelope generator, and amplifier modules. After installing, firing it up and letting it warm up for ten minutes, I plugged in patch cords, my MS2000 to control it, and connected it to my keyboard amplifier.

WOW...

Now I've been playing around with virtual analog synths for a while, but I wasn't prepared for the sound. Even on such a simple dotcom system, I was blown away. What blew me out of the water the most was the lowest bass sounds. I think the foundation and the walls of my house were vibrating! And I hardly had the volume up. You don't get that kind of bass from software!

Later I used the arpeggiator on the MS2000 to trigger the notes so that I could change patch cords and dials. Been playing with it for five hours. What will I do when I actually get another oscillator? Is there any hope I won't become an addict to analog modular synthesizers when the filter arrives next month?

I also realized today how good the instuctions are that come with each module. I know I have some experience with virtual synths, but Roger's instructions regarding possible patch cord connections for each module are clear and encourage experimentation.

Today I figured out this is Roger's and Margo's way of getting us hooked. Should I curse Roger, or simply say "Thank-you"? I think I'll say a very heartfelt "Thank you" to Roger and Margo for opening a road with no end in sight....

While many of those modules possess esoteric funcionality and control options, they lack stability and usability in a traditional musical context. In my mind neither is better, however, your modules add a much needed element to my music. And, the sound quality of your modules is impeccable (the spring reverb is a little noisy, but, that's spring reverb). Have you thought about expanding your module line to include: Vactrol based filters, diode based filters, analog delay, or a frequency shifter? BTW, I am very happy with my purchase!

I have 1 state variable filter, 1 MIDI interface, 1 Osc. When these perfect looking curcuit boards of bliss arrived in my bubble wrap I was in awe. I could run my microphone through the filter and finally speak in farts. Or chicken speak, or monkey yipes, even Cher. But it was all crystal clear sound. I have never heard a guitar sound this way until I wired it for modulation. My 303's Arpeggio works perfect for the half man half machine work, and the result is a perfect contrast of musical mayhem as far as you want, or musical clarity like a perfectly cut diamond. That's what you are Roger and Margo Arrick. You're diamonds.

Roger,
we got our little mobile system earlier this year, and it has quickly installed itself in the control room as the "single most used" midi unit in the system. This is in a studio full of antique modular synths.

The cosmetics, the workmanship, the packaging is perfect. The unit arrived by courier from Texas still in tune. You really do not not have any competition. We are very impressed both with the quality of the product and the great communications with you and your staff.

It's even nicer than I thought it would be! Thanks so much. I can't wait to put modules in here and start making beautiful music. I'm going to tell all my friends how nice your products are. I have had my synthesizer for a few weeks and I'm very pleased with it. Even though it's just a humble system it still is the most powerful I have today! I was very impressed by the sound, even more impressed than I thought I'd be -it really sounds extremly powerful and fat. Didn't think a 12db/oct filter would do that. And as I patch it I keep finding that you've been at least three steps ahead of me all the time -every time I think "Hey, what if this will do that", it does! And every time I think "Hey, what if that module has this function", it does! It's so unbelievably inspirational and um -intuitive! That's the word I'm looking for! And when I found that the sample and hold module also _sends_ gates when clocking itself I fell in love with you and you're product :) What ever doubts I had before disappeared and I was totally sold -I'll never buy anything else! So keep it coming and please produce those things you mention in the future section -I really want to add them too! No rush tho, I can see myself coming back to you for more for as long as I can afford it!

To sum it up, this is a great product -it's a dream come true and then some! Thanks a lot for doing this and please tell all the folks at the factory I said hey and thanks! 'Cause you've all done a great job designing, building, assembling, packing, shipping and managing this stuff!

Im considering purchasing a modular in the near future. and there are 2 things keeping me from going the way of your company.

1) No kit form available - your modules are inexpensive enough already!! no mistake about that! but less $10-15 and the joy and fun of building my own modules would be a HUGE plus!!

2) Synthesizers.com is SUCH a stinky name.. i would MUCH prefer Arrick Robotics be the name printed on the front panel, inSTEAD of the goofy and REALLY generic sounding 'synthesizers.com'.

If I were to spend $2000.00 on Q119s I would have 4 rows of 24 steps (8 more steps that Serge). I could use 1 - Q119 for GATE generation and 3 - Q119s for CV outputs. All things being equal, I think you have produced the best sequencer in any price range. True it's not a Moog 960 nor does it have a 962 but I have found ways of meeting my needs with the Q119 which far exceeded my expections. I thought it was good from the description on your website but hands-on experience shows how dynamic the Q119 really is...

More steps than my Polyfusion, which does have stop/skip switch but provides no GATE out for the stages. That omission put you way out in front. Then there is Analouge Solutions, well lets not go there.

Needless to say this is one beautiful piece of kit whose sound needs to be heard live to do it justice. The demos just don't give you that gorgeous round bass and the squidginess of the filters!

Thank you for producing these magnificent monsters. In one afternoon I managed to seek out all the sounds I had been failing to get from the rest of my (digital) gear for the past 5 years and plenty more to boot.

I have both Rogers original Q107 and new Q150 filters and both sound fantastic. I was expecting the Q150 to blow the Q107 away but it doesn't. It definitely sounds and handles differently but in a complementary way to the Q107. I'm really glad I have both. Roger, if you haven't changed the spec of the QSS44 and QSP44 to include both then I think you should, although at the end of the day the Q107 is the better all rounder I guess.

WoW!!!

Now that I've got that off my chest, I'll explain. I received the system yesderday and had to go to work immmediately after. It was one of the longest days I can recall. Once I returned home, I finally got to have a good look at it. The wood and steel gave me an impression of sturdiness and the knobs have a firm, quality action to them. Before I even turned the system on, I began patching and when I was through, I flicked it on and it functioned exactly as expected. Its very logical and intuitive as far as modulars go, no guessing about terminology or stray patch points, everything was easy to comprehend and useful. I liked where you decided my module selction should go, its a nice layout. I also might add that the packing job was nothing short of amazing. I think it would have survived a fall from the plane. Thanks very much for assuring its safe arrival, your care for your product is obvious and noted. I now have enough packing left over to wrap the synths I'll be shipping out of here that I'll no longer need ;o) It was well worth the wait, as I suspected. Also, the filter is actually very capable; my experience with 12dB multi-modals is that they are nice tools, but that you still need a 'real' 24dB LPF to achieve a full range of synthesis. The Q107 has a good sound to it, and goes farther than anticipated to being a complete filter solution than any other that I've used. I'll be waiting to snap-up one of your transistor-ladder LPFs when they appear more for additional flavour than filling a hole. More later... back to work once again... sigh, another long day ahead.
Thanks Roger!

I just wanted to let you know I received and installed the Q117 S+H module that I purchased recently. It is excellent! I am super happy with it. I look forward to adding addt'l Synthesizers.com modules to my rack. See this picture.

Roger's Response:

Hey, and it looks pretty good in your rack too. [right next to that Moog VCA]. Remember: more modules = better. :)

Well, I just recieved my QSS22 system today. Wow, am I impressed!! Big knobs, beautiful wood, and everything looks and works great!! I havent been able to leave the thing alone since I first turned it on! After playing with my modular for only one hour, I had made some really interesting sounds already, stuff I could never get before with a traditional synth. Once I am able to learn the system to it's full potential, I will send some samples. I would recommend this synthesizer system to anyone thinking of getting into modular synthesis. Thanks Roger!!

Roger's Response

OK Eric, you're hired :)

Just read your feedback to the Analog Heaven fiasco. Great response. I am very pleased with the modules I have received so far. I like the form factor and I like the look. Had little trouble interfacing with my current MOTM gear and am quite pleased with the operation of the modules. Of course I didn't get any sound generating units, only modifiers but they seemed to work well.

Anyway, Just wanted to let you know you have at least one supporter and I will be ordering more modules soon.

Roger,
Thanks for the nice comment in the MoogArchives guestbook. After reading it I visited your web site -- very nice! The instruments are beautiful. You have obviously taken great care to design and manufacture a quality product. At Moog, especially in the early days, we took pride in the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into our instruments. Looks like you're continuing that tradition.

And I've got to tell you... your menu graphic (the module with jacks and leds), is brilliant! Very well done!

I'm an old timer (still own my 1st 2600 purchased w/ yardwork money in 1972) Welcome to the fray (also known as the 21st century analog renaissance!) I applaud your decision to withhold info until you are ready to ship. That makes a very good 1st impression and I think it will stand you in good stead with the "community". Im sure you realize that this is an amazingly zealous, bigoted & downright warlike uh...... marketplace. I think your decision will win you a few points up front and that will come in hand among the "analog taliban". Welcome!

I just wanted to drop you a quick email. I accidentally ran into your WebPages, and was amazed. I didn't think anyone still made old school modulars like yours! They look incredible. I was truly impressed. I am a proud owner of an old Aries modular and an ms20, and just ordered an old ms50 and an sq10. I would love to get my hands on some of these modules.....as soon as I make some money on a new remix, I will be giving you a call, and will probably get a few modules as well as a case, and build my own synth over time. Thank you for realizing the world is horrible place with no modulars, it is great to see them being built again.

Do you guys have references -- meaning are there people using your equipment that can vouch for its coolness, quality, etc? Having an internet website, you SEEM like the real deal, and I'd like to believe it, but it would help me (and others) to have some information on folks who are satisfied customers!

I have spent the last 2 hours pouring over the fount of information at your site and I wanted to write in to let you know that I REALLY APPRECIATE all the effort that you've put into your site. There is the perfect amount of information regarding your product and potential configurations. I was EASILY able to find answers to any questions I had while reading. I've had no expereince with hardware modulars, but own and adore a Clavia Nord Modular, so I consider myself an informed user and took the little bit of knowledge I brought to the table and combined it with your wealth of information. Rest assured that your page has been bookmarked and will be frequently visited by me when I want to do some "wishful thinking" . . . maybe someday, I'll have the money to afford one of your systems, but for now, I can simply enjoy looking and learning. Thanks for your efforts.

Hi Roger , just linked over from SonicState and am pretty gobsmacked by your lovely looking systems - perhaps a slight nod to moog in the design dept there (which is no bad thing!). Anyways being a fellow synth nut I just want to pass on a few words ofencouragement to you and wish you all the best - I think your systems will be very well received and if I was over there stateside I'd be buying one today (definately a QSC44 + Keybd) BUT being over here in the UK I'd have to add duties at 4% then VAT at 17.5% all on top of shipping which sadley makes it rather expensive (cheaper than a moog tho') so I'll be saving for a while yet. 8(

My blank panels showed up today and they are absolutely perfect! Woo Hoo!

The screws are different (which is no problem at all, of course) but the panels fit in perfectly and look great. [on a Moog modular] Do you mind if I brag to the folks on AH?

I've been looking for some blank panels forever and finally got an e-mail back from XXXXXXXXXX after I ordered these from you and they quoted me $XX.XX each. Doh! Plus, it took about a month to get a reply back from them.

Thanks again!

I'm very happy with my order! They look great :-)

Wow, you've done quite a bit of work! Do you do your own boards or do you send them out? I've always toyed with the idea of doing some untypical synth modules as well as effects designs. Now my wife is divorcing me so my world is in a bit of a tizzy - but it looks like I'll keep the house and my synth stuff so I can work on these things once I mentally can concentrate on it(!) I'm really impressed with all you've done and envy your ability to work on things you love and make a living at it. At the same time you're helping many others develop their own similar interests.

I cant believe you wrote back so fast. I am for sure going to order at least the small modular system very soon. Have you seen a good response (with orders) since you put up the site? I just need to sell off a few of my old analog synths, then i will be ready.

June 7, 2000 - Eric Wrote:

Thanks for your response, I really am impressed with your site the systems do look amazng can't wait to here some samples, the sequencer alone should be a big hit for you. You should be proud of yourself ... no hype ..no months or years of promises.. you did what Don "moog" martin should have done. All the best and I will be buying your stuff !

June 5, 2000 - Brian K. Wrote:

I am VERY interested in a system, as I have many old synths here, but always wanted a Moog. I know yours is not the same, but it has a similar look (we all grew up with it!) and I really LOVE the panel layout you guys chose. It's logical and attractive.

Your site looks very well done, and I've heard decent sounds from your MP3s, but I MUST hear it in person sometime. If you sell ANY to California (I'm in Los Angeles) I will drive to hear it and give myself a "road test". I may be able to send you several customers here; producers and engineers are forever renting my ARP 2600s and Emu modular for albums.

I've been all over your page. Your stuff looks really nice. I think the keyboard and sequencer would be a good place to start with your line of fun.

As so many people, I saw mention of your company on AH this week. Congratulations on designing this system! As a former synthbuilder I can certainly appreciate the huge effort involved.

You obviously know & love synths.

Best of luck!

New Modulars! Yea!
I'm very happy to find out that your site was not a hoax! Im from analog heaven, well, Im on the list. After all the commotion I thought, shit, another cool synth i want thats not real. Im not sure if you checked out the sage, but It looked very very very cool, ( maybe you could actually build me one?) anyway... I think your product line looks great, and the cost looks even better. I have all sorts of synth but have so far shyed away from modular gear. i have the nord modular, but its just not the same. Ill be opening a studio soon and I hope to get some good customers and their bills as well. If all goes well me and my partner have always wanted a real modular unit, but the price has kept us away. Now we have money, so things are looking better in that area. We still dont know what well do about the heat, we already have enough gear to keep a few thousand alive in a snowstorm, btu hey, blood sweat and tears right? Anyway, congrats on finding a large market ( AH ) I hope everyone buys as much stuff from you as it seems they will ( myself included ). Again, good luck, and sorry for some of my fellow AHers being so rude, they can be down right nasty people sometimes.
